Restoring European competitiveness is the over-riding policy priority for business leaders today. Even before the economic crisis began, European businesses faced stiff pressure from global competitors and rapid technological change. Today, business leaders believe that debt levels, diminished consumer demand in Europe and the growing disconnect between citizens and political decision-makers will continue to stifle progress in the coming years – creating an even more challenging environment in which to introduce the policies required to boost growth. It is, therefore, imperative that Europe’s leaders prioritise measures that allow business to regain its competitive and productive edge.
