The goal of the annual M&SOM (Manufacturing and Service Operations Management) conference is to bring together academics interested in the broad discipline of Operations Management to promote novel (unpublished) work through conference presentations. Every three years the conference goes international (otherwise it is held in the USA) and multiple schools compete for the right to hold the conference. This was the first time when INSEAD had the opportunity of organizing the M&SOM conference. The conference is preceded by 5 mini-conferences of Special Interest Groups which this year included Services Operations, Supply Chain Operation, Interface of Finance, Operations and Risk Management, Healthcare Operations Management and Sustainable Operations. The conference itself was organized in 10 parallel tracks with 27 presentations in each. We invited a broad range of submissions which far exceeded the number of allotted presentation slots. Likewise, we welcomed a record number of participants which numbered close to 500. Special events at the conference included M&SOM Society Business Meeting and a gala-dinner at the Chateau Fontainebleau.
