How quickly does it take state-of-the-art “best practice” knowledge to get to Africa’s smallholder farmers? A colleague of mine put it at about 40 years. Were it not for the efforts of organizations like the Grameen Foundation in Uganda, Farmer Voice Radio in Malawi, the GSM Association in Mali, or Farm Radio International across the continent, this lag might persist for generations to come. While technology is either here or coming fast, these organizations are seizing on the next revolution – content.
